International Business Consulting Firms

Robert asks…

What do you do if you have a job in international business or business management?

I want to major in either international business or business management in college but I’m not too sure on what they do…I know I sound stupid for wanting to major in something without knowing what they do so can anyone of you tell me? ><

A close friend’s ex-fiancee imports wood fram Brazil. Her degree, I believe, was from the University of Georgia (UGA) and she speaks several languages (English, Portugese, French, and Spanish) fluently.

Another friend works for the State Department.

Another friend is a waiter and has an MBA in international business.

Another friend’s brother works on the exchange floor in Chicago.

Another friend manages a bunch of computer geeks for a large hardware/software corporation.

Another friend manages a finance organization for a large aviation manufacturer.

Another friend has a double major in international business and HR with an undergrad in English (and my sentences drove her nuts!!) and she travels the world consulting for a large consulting firm.

The question is…
“What do YOU want to do with your degree in International Business or Business Management?” Your summer internships will generally help provide the direction of what you will do when you graduate.

Joseph asks…

Can someone explain what my job would be if in majored in international business?

Well I am going to college next year and I definitely want to be in an upper spot in a big business. I’ve recently went through some stuff and I am thinking about majoring in international business instead of business management so I can travel the world but I’m not sure what my career would be. Help!!!

AustinBusinessConsulting answers:

I majored in International Business too! I minored in Spanish. I highly recommend minoring in a more business related field like Accounting/Finance/Marketing – it will help you find a job better when you graduate. After I graduated I did a year-long international business internship program in London, England. It’s called the Mountbatten Internship Program. Now I am working for a consulting firm and we go around and help other business fix their issues. My friends are working for all different kinds of companies, many of which are international. You usually start off in an administrative/analyst type of position. Your internship during college and your work experience matter so much more than what you major in. So make sure you get good summer internships during college. Or find a part time job that is business related. Also, make sure you become close friends with your teachers because they will give you excellent recommendations. That is something I wish I had done more. You really won know what job you will have/want until you get into the field and try different things out. Good luck!
